Nova Scotia Announces New Physician Nominee Program

On February 22nd, 2018 the Province of Nova Scotia announced a new Provincial Nominee Program specifically for general practitioners, family physicians and specialist physicians with signed approved employment opportunities with the Nova Scotia Health Authority or the IWK Health Centre.

All applicants will have to be able to have to prove that they have a valid Education Credential Assessment or proof of education and medical training required for licensure in Nova Scotia and that they are proficient in English or French at a level consistent with the requirements of their position.

The job offer from the Nova Scotia Health Authority or the IWK Health Centre needs to meet the following criteria:

  • Must be on their official letterhead
  • Must be signed and dated by a person authorized to hire physicians at the Nova Scotia Health Authority or IWK
  • Must be signed and dated by the applicant who is accepting the opportunity
  • Must indicate eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia
  • Must indicate that the applicant is eligible to apply for privileges and credentials with Nova Scotia Health Authority and the IWK

Those applicants that meet the criteria of the New Physician Nominee Program and have their applications approved will then be able to apply for Permanent Residency in Canada. Applicants can also be issued with a letter of support to obtain a work permit or extension of an existing work permit if they are already employed in Nova Scotia.
